Dog Breeds and Medium Size – A list of the most popular medium sized dogs. Most popular dog breeds and medium size are Bulldogs, Poodles and Boston Terriers; these were rated 6th, 9th and 19th most popular respectively by the AKC in 2009. They vary in height from 15inches (38cm) to about 22inches (56cm). Some dog breeds and medium size maybe shorter but heavier in stature. They make robust family pets, able to play Frisbee with the family yet easy to manage when walking.
Bulldogs – As far as dog breeds and medium size bulldogs are generally docile although originally bred for fighting and hunting ‘bulls’. Their aggression has been bred out and is now generally a docile breed. They can be very fast movers over a short distance. They are friendly and gregarious but occasionally willful. These dog breeds and medium sizes need regular exercise to prevent becoming overweight. Poodle – For dog breeds and medium size poodles are referred to as ‘Standard’. They have a dense, curly, non-shedding coat that requires regular grooming. Poodles do not have the double coat of many breeds and their fur is often referred to as "hair", and are solid-colored. The poodle is one of the easiest dog breeds and medium size to train, they learn quickly, is quite smart compared to other dogs. Poodles are extremely people-oriented dogs and generally eager to please. They are good with children and are adaptable. Like most dog breeds and medium size, they appreciate daily exercise, such as a walk or a play session. Most are fairly agile and athletic. Boston Terriers - The Boston Terrier is a lively and highly intelligent breed as far as dog breeds and medium size go. Physical traits include a smooth coat, and both a short head and tail. Coloring is primarily brindle, seal or black and evenly marked with white. The head is in proportion to the size of the dog and the expression indicates a high degree of intelligence. Boston Terriers have strong, friendly personalities. This dog breeds and medium size can range in temperaments from those that are eager to please, to those that are more stubborn. While originally bred for fighting, they were later down bred for companionship. The Boston Terrier can be gentle, alert, expressive, and well-mannered. Both females and males generally bark only when necessary. They enjoy being around people, and, if properly socialized, get along well with children, the elderly, other canines, and non-canine pets. Some Boston Terriers are very cuddly, while others are more independent for dog breeds and medium size. |
